Developmental Editing $.003/word
A developmental edit will consist of multiple read-throughs of your manuscript, lots of sticky notes, and scribbles in the margins. I'll coordinate the chaos into a coherent editorial summary that will identify the strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript, with notes on your characters, setting, plot, and conflict, as well as potential opportunities for additional worldbuilding, backstory, etc.
This is a great option if you haven't had beta readers yet, or if you'd like a second opinion on beta feedback.
Line Editing $0.004/word
Line editing, also known as my favorite kind of editing, is where I will come at your manuscript with my red pen, thesaurus, and a lot of comments (mostly to explain why I'm making a change, or to offer alternatives). You'll receive a marked-up copy plus a clean copy with all changes accepted so that you can see the "final" version. I'll make changes with your voice (and your characters) in mind, flag crutch words and overused phrases, and generally ensure that your words flow beautifully. This often includes a light copy edit.
Copy Editing $0.003/word
Copy edits are where we get into the nitty-gritty details. Did you spell everyone's name consistently? Do your subjects and verbs agree? Do you have random extra spaces, line breaks, or punctuation floating around? Is your dialogue formatted correctly? As with line editing, you'll get two copies of the manuscript: a marked up copy and a clean one.
Line & Copy Editing $0.008/word
Get the best of both worlds. If you've had beta readers and incorporated their feedback into your manuscript, this is a good option for you. Also a good choice to ensure that the spellings of your characters' names and any other universe-specific terms stay consistent throughout your manuscript.
Developmental & Line & Copy Editing $0.01/word
I'll do it all. We'll work in stages, and it'll take a while, but it'll be worth it!
Beta Reading $1 per 1k words
With beta reading services, you'll receive a marked up copy of your manuscript that includes my reader reactions and inline comments (ranging from the silly to the serious). If you have specific questions you'd like me to answer, I will address those as well. You'll also get a summary with more coherent feedback about your characters, worldbuilding/setting, pacing, etc., as well as a list of any potential content warnings.
Manuscript & Short Story Critiques $45/hr
With a manuscript critique, you'll receive high-level editorial feedback that focuses on things like character arcs, plot pacing and engagement, and any questions or concerns about your world or setting. I'll note areas where the manuscript felt strongest and weakest, and any places that provoked a strong reaction for me as a reader. It is not as in-depth as a developmental edit, but can be used as a starting point as you continue to refine and self-edit before engaging an editor.
